Reject to Redirect
“If I had booked every audition that I wanted to book, I wouldn’t be here writing this to you. For that, I’m grateful.” - Author
Writing this specific blog has been very cathartic to me as someone who struggles not take things personally sometimes. I say that because in this specific blog, I’m going to be talking about my dear friend and #1 supporter, Rejection.
You see, when we were all young and thought we were smarter than the World, we hated being hit with rejection. We thought the idea of our crushes in our heads was going to be our forever person and never hurt us, cough, we thought that that one parent was going to come back into our lives and stay forever because they could see how special we were and would never think twice about hurting us..again, cough, WE, and I say we because I refuse to believe it was just me, thought that life was going to be easy and just workout purely off the idea that if we just followed the rules, went to school, and did our homework that we would rich billionaires, COUGH.
Does anyone have a cough drop?
The truth is, no one has their life figured out. At every stage in our lives, we have faced rejection and probably reverted to hating the world despite it. I was one of those people. It wasn’t until recently in my journey as an actor that I realized that my once sworn enemy, rejection, has been my right-hand man all along.
“What is this dude talking about”?
Things in life happen for us, not to us. If you are fighting the World for all the things it did to you, you’ll fail to see the blessings that the World was shaping you for. Once I started to adopt this mindset, I realized that Rejection was really Redirection, always one step ahead to take the heavy-hitting blows, so that I could pivot in the right direction to what is truly for me. This is different for everyone because we were made for a purpose, and if you fight it, eventually rejection will let you get knocked on your ass. But if you embrace that purpose and trust in the unknown, then you’ll keep walking the unseen path and eventually become who you were created to be.
We must not forget how beautiful Redirection is, just because we fail to see its greater purpose. Don’t take things personally because the only opportunity you’re missing out on is the opportunity to be better. #SterItUp
